QSENSATO, born as a spin-off of the University of Bari, is an innovative start-up specialized in the field of quantum sensors and metrology. QSENSATO technology is based on atomic-photonic chips that exploit the properties of quantum mechanics to detect minimal variations in electric and magnetic fields, making unprecedented precision in measurements possible.
The sensors developed by the start-up open up new possibilities in the collection of empirical data in an extremely accurate and timely manner, finding application in strategic areas such as medical diagnostics, geophysical exploration, GPS-free navigation and monitoring of critical infrastructures.

The Michelangelo Merlin Interuniversity Department of Physics of the Aldo Moro University and the Polytechnic of Bari (DIF) promotes research activities in the field of basic and applied physics, conducted through qualified international collaborations. These peculiarities have contributed to the growth of the Puglia Region, a nationally recognized development center for advanced technologies in many sectors like mechatronics, aerospace and environmental and biomedical sensors.
The DIF is also the only interuniversity department of Physics in Italy, maintaining that cultural unity which has always been a strong point of the department. In 2023 it was appointed Department of Excellence 2023-2027 due to the excellent quality of scientific research and didactic design demonstrated.
The department brings together a vast community of researchers who operate in a cohesive, coordinated and synergistic way, engaged in basic, applied and multidisciplinary research activities, in training and higher education and third mission activities.
The National Quantum Science and Technology Institute (NQSTI) is a consortium funded under Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza (PNRR) in the framework of the European Union – NextGenerationEU. It was officially launched in January 2023 and will run for three years.
Its main goals are to team up Italian entities carrying out competitive and innovative research in the field of quantum science and technology (QST), and to stimulate future industrial innovation in this field, providing a forum in which novel ideas and opportunities are transferred to companies. Moreover, a significant fraction of the project resources is dedicated to support a comprehensive education program,to favour technology transfer to companies, and to implement a robust outreach program to make QST pervasive in the society.

The High-Performance Computing, Big Data e Quantum Computing Research Centre, created and managed by the ICSC, is one of the five National Centres established by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), covering designated strategic sectors for the development of the country: i.e., simulations, computing, and high-performance data analysis, Agritech, development of gene therapy and drugs via RNA technology, sustainable mobility, biodiversity.
The activities of the National Supercomputing Centre will focus on maintenance and upgrade of the Italian HPC and Big Data infrastructure, as well as on the development of advanced methods and numerical applications and software tools to integrate computing, simulation, collection, and analysis of data of interest for research, manufacturing, and society, also through cloud and distributed approaches.
